PROJECT MANAGEMENT

PARAP SHOPPING CENTRE STREETSCAPE UPGRADE

Description

Louw Group have been engaged by the City of Darwin as Project Managers of the Parap Shopping Centre Streetscape Upgrade. The scope consists of two concurrent projects: short term activities focussed on the greening and cooling of the Parap Village area through smaller works, and the longer term concept master planning of the site.

The short term activities include a review of pedestrian accessibility and concept landscaping design, followed by physical construction works related to landscaping improvements and fairy light installations in the first instance.

The concept master planning of the area will focus on “transforming Parap Village from a car-dominated and disconnected series of small and hard to use public spaces, to the most comfortable and engaging centre in Darwin – a place with many places and choices of things to do”. The long-term masterplan design activities will focus on:

  • Connected and car-free public space;
  • Consolidate parking and reduce car circulation areas in the centre;
  • Prioritise pedestrian connections and experience, particularly at entry points;
  • Create a physically comfortable and engaging place to spend time;
  • Extend trading hours and diversify the offer;
  • Develop market/temporary trading overlay and an infrastructure plan; and
  • Green, cool and comfortable climate management and creative expressions.

The concurrent project both require a high level of stakeholder engagement and involvement, and careful coordination of outcomes with all parties.
